Scandinavian Public Library Quarterly goes back quite a long while -
in fact it was first published in 1968.
It is published jointly by the Nordic Public Library Authorities
in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, each country taking
it in turn to host the main editorial office for a period
of five years. From January 2007 the office is placed
in Helsinki, Finland, at the Ministry of Education, the
editor-in-chief being Barbro Wigell-Ryynänen, the
assistant editor Tarja Mäkinen, and the Finnish co-editor
being Seppo Verho from the Finnish Library Association´s
library journal, Kirjastolehti.
It is our strong belief that Nordic public libraries must have a voice
in the international library world.
Because we have a unique story to tell:
- a story about libraries - even in thinly populated regions
- about networking
- about establishing good and highly relevant content on the Internet
- about bridging the virtual and the real library
- about outstanding library architecture
- about information policies in some of the strongest democracies in the world.
Now that SPLQ is also available electronically, the scene is set
for topical discussions, and ideas for possible future articles
are always welcome, as are your general comments.
